Medellin Adventure Tours Interview

By Interviewer at 10/23/09 07:37

Name of your website?

Medellin Adventure Tours

Your name?

Sandy

Your Location (city, etc)

Medellin

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Information on lots of outdoor activities you can do when you visit Medellin Colombia

What inspired you to launch your own website?

Too many comments on th internet about "not much to do"; "not a tourist destination"; "after you have seen Botro Plaza there is not much else".

There are tons o things to do in Medellin Colombia

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

December of 2007. www.medellintravelguide.com

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Best URL I could think of that was available. City or country "Travel Guides" are highly sought after URL's

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

1) It is all in English; 2) it is current and accurate information; 3) Pages are updated frequently; 4) Many links to extarnal pages with additional information

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

I'll keep it but may scale it down. It is over 180 pages and sometimes dunting to maintain.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Ha ha. Probably less than a penny per hour. Success has been great with trfic increasing over 20% month over month. Advertising sales have been painfully slow but that seems to be changing a more and more people reference the site.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I'd hire about 10 locals to sell advertising to local businesses that want to attract the ever increasing number of foreigners visiting and moving to Medellin

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes. I can add pages in about 30 minutes

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Getting Paisas to part with their advertising dollars

What has been your biggest challenge?

Making tmplate change on 180 pages and re-publishing

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Blogs, Travel web sites, link echanges

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

Never expected it to get so big so fast

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Since Dec 2007. I'll keep it up indeinitely now that I am seeing more advertising interest and have so many page 1 search engine topics.

Replace this with a question of your own

If I had it to do over again I would, "Get the template perfect the first time"

What is your website address?

Update.

MTG does not offer local paid advertising on it's site. Your local business or profession may be added at no charge with a URL, logo and photo.

Medellin Adventure Tours is an e-mail forwarding service to local English speaking tour agencies who receive and respond to all inquiries for information. MAT receives no remuneration for this service
