Located on the Santa Marta Bahia and at the foot of the highest Colombian mountain Santa Marta is the oldest Hispanic "living" city of the Americas. The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta is only 40 kilometers away from the coastline, and is the highest altitude of the planet so near to the ocean.

Ritacuba Blanco is the highest mountain massif region in the Sierra Nevada del Cocuy in Colombia. Unlike most high peaks in Colombia, which are composed of volcanic rock, this mountain is composed of metamorphic rock and granite. Its peak is also capped with snow.
